Great Wedding Shots...

Looking at wedding sites more often than not I've come across some of my favorite "must have" wedding shots. Are there any shots you really want to have or other ideas you've come across?

Open in 20 Years...

I love the idea of having some component of your wedding that is saved for 10, 15, 20 years down the road to open again. Especially in these days whenever over 50% of marriages end in divorce. I can almost see this as being something you can look at ten years after your marriage to help strengthen it and remember why you married your husband or wife in the first place, what made you fall in love with them and have to grow and strengthen your marriage for another ten years.

Here are a few of my favorites- anyone do something like this for their wedding?

Write love letters to each other, add a bottle of wine,
nail it at the wedding and open in 25 years!

12th Anniversary
Have your guests leave a message or ask a different question at each table.
Ideas for date night, what makes a marriage last, etc.

Use your guest book as a time capsule and don't read or open
a set date.

Have your guests predict your future in your guestbooks and see what comes true - here are some questions to ask:

  • Which one of our brothers or sisters will be next to get married?
  • How many kids will we have ?
  • Where will be living?
  • Who will our kids look like?
  • What will we name our kids?
  • How will we spend our first anniversary?
  • And you can tailor it to be more personal: how many marathons will we run? how many bottles of red wine will we have in twenty years? where did we go on our next vacation?

Sweet Dreams...

I'm ecstatic! We moved into our new house last Feb/March and I feel like the bedroom was the one room that has just been incomplete. We didn't have a headboard and I think that just helps complete the room. Hours of pinterest and Google searching on DIY headboards led me to believe that while these all looked amazing the time we'd actually find to putting one of those together was slim to none. Especially if you need to buy the tools to put it together.

A furniture store was having a "Grand Opening" sale in celebration of another town opening their store. I figured it'd be worth going down and seeing if bed sets were discounted or on sale. Lucky me - they handed you a scratch ticket and I got a $400 gift card! Woohoo!! Good thing I left my fiance in the car and had raced was freezing outside and I wasn't about to wait. :) Narrowly beat a couple behind us.

So here's our new bed!! Can't wait to complete the room.

So in celebration here are a few of my favorite Pinterest bedrooms:
Love the frames with words inside!

Love the headboard and mirrors.

One of those DIY projects I'd love to try!!

Love the B/W photos above the bed.

Let's Start Those Resolutions Early...

I admit it - I was terrible this summer. This past Spring I was so ambitious about riding my bike to work each day, taking the dog out every night for a long stroll, going for a quick hike or run during lunch hour, and coupling that in with some rainy days at the gym. Well....summer came and went. I woke up late, got too busy at work, cleaning after I get home and trying to still settle in to our new home. Who knew yard work lasted more than one long, hot day?

So here I am nearly 4 months after getting engaged and realizing I really  need to pick it back up. This is the dress I fell in love with, but after trying it on just realized it wasn't for me. On the right hand side there's a lot of bling that's not too apparent in the photo, but when you try it on it's really distracting. Sigh...but I found what I wanted, but don't want to give away anything if the fiance happens to take a glance at this blog.

A few years ago my old roommate and I committed ourselves to the gym and eating right and it was awesome! I felt great and looked great too. Then I moved and it's back to old habits, but I'm going to do it again!

I recently joined and so far so good. I think one of the main reasons my roommate and I were so successful - aside from pushing eachother and not having boyfriends to tempt you into spaghetti, a night out, and a beer - was that we were writing down every morsel that we dropped into our mouth. Makes you realize that holy sh** that Halloween candy added nearly 500 calories to my day and I'm still hungry.

Thanks to MFP it is super easy to track your food, exercise and the best part is at the end of the day when you "submit" your info they tell you if you continue to eat/workout at the rate you did today "You'll weight XX pounds in 5 weeks." Some days it's heavier and some days it's lower...when I see that lower number it really makes me want to eat like that on a more regular basis.

So here's to starting my New Years Resolution a little earlier...and hoping that by next September that dress fits me like a glove!

Leg Warmers...Old Sweaters

On my bucket list is learning how to sew...well. I want to be able to pull out the sewing machine and whip something out or not be afraid to turn the stitching inside out and see what a mess I have made. So one of my resolutions for 2012 is to learn to sew.

I love the look of leg warmers coming out of your boots. I think it looks warm, classy and fun!

Best part - someone has a DIY tutorial on how to make these lovelies out of your old sweaters. I have plenty of sweaters I don't wear or have shrunken up I'd love to cut those up!

Here is the tutorial from the Made by Lex blog - love this!!

Halloween is Over...Bring on Christmas!

Ok I'm with most people where I don't want to see anything related to Christmas, holidays, snow, twinkling lights - until December or at least after Thanksgiving.  This year seems to be a little different (thank you Pinterest). I couldn't be happier to pack up the Halloween/Autumn gear, shove it in a closet and bring out the Christmas decorations.

My excuse for putting these ideas up the day after Halloween is you have PLENTY of time to work on them. I think that's a good enough excuse, right?

So here are a few ideas I found on Pinterest...some that are such a cute idea for winter weddings!

How perfect for home or wedding centerpieces!

For those without a, love, love this!

Cut the bottom of your tree of every year

A great idea for all those mismatched socks...
an advent calendar.

I've always liked these. Made them once!

Get Naked...and Drink Wine?

I recently received as a gift some Get Naked wine...yum! Love, love, love. And now I can use my little lady wine stops and I think it's fitting (see below).  I love their mission on the website: Shut off the TV and enjoy a glass of wine with your husband/wife.

The winery is based in Oregon, but they also have two wineries located in the gorgeous Black Hills of South Dakota.

My favorite...the outdoor wine. It comes in a plastic bottle and is perfect for any picnic, get together, etc.

And I love the back of the bottles - they tell you to "drink what you like, not what others say is good". Great words to live by!  Check them out here - Naked Winery.

Pumpking Carving...

Usually I'm the one to carve my pumpkins October 1 and they are the saddest looking pumpkins by Halloween. This year - just 2 days before Halloween!

I'm not talented or patient enough for the intricate designs that some can do so instead I thought I'd post a few of my favorite!

I Heart Minted...

I have been super excited for the Save the Dates to come and yesterday they arrived and I couldn't be happier! Minted is awesome, fabulous, amazing, one of a kind, the BEST place to order invitations from. I'm starting to second guess doing the invitations myself and instead ordering them through Minted.

How cute is the little bow and Christmas-like to/from label?

I just couldn't be happier and highly, highly recommend them to anyone and EVERYONE! And again a HUGE thank you to the Bridalhood blog Minted giveaway that helped persuade me to order from Minted (not that I needed much persuasion to start...).

Thank you Minted and don't forget to vote on the Head over Heels wedding design contest right now.

In LOVE with the skinny wrap around labels

1, 2, 3, 59, 1985...unique table numbers

To be honest I would love to have everyone come and sit down wherever they want. No table arrangements, no seating charts, no problem. Although it is kind of nice to not have people running around "Are these seats taken? Do you have room for three here?" Going to weddings I like having somewhere to sit, but it's also kind of nice to sit with people you may not know and forge some new friendships over the night.

So if you do go with table numbers why just throw out some cards with 1-20 on them? Make them unique to your wedding, to you and your new husband or just for fun. Here are my favorites and they take no longer than printing them on a table card would.

Numbers that are unique to your and your new husband.

My favorite - baby photos from different years.

Old wooden fence posts cut and painted - LOVE this!

Wine bottles with table numbers.

Similar to another photo - but using the photos you were at that age. Two years old - table 2!

Photos of your pet!

Cruising around on Pinterest and this one caught my eye and made my mouth water. How delicious and perfect for fall do these "apple nachos" look? The link on Pinterest took me to ManifestVegan and I can't wait to make these this weekend. Not sure it falls into my new wedding diet...but it has apples in it right?

All you need are apples, lemon juice, peanut butter, almonds, pecans, coconut and chocolate chips.

They use peanut butter to drizzle it over, but during Halloween I have a hankering for some caramel and this would be the perfect recipe to use it on.

Click here for the recipe at Manifest Vegan.

Happy Anniversary...

It's not our anniversary in any stretch, but I love these ideas so much I had to post them! Luckily we aren't married yet so I can start from the beginning, but I almost wish we had done this when we first started dating. I will love to look at these 10, 20, 50 years down the road!

I love this one holding the photo from last year - so easy to see the change and difference in you and your husband.

And this one adding a little text...

And a crafty DIY photo...

I can't decide which one is my favorite...I LOVE all the ideas and can't wait to get started! Which one is your favorite or have you done anything similar? (Side it just me or do the last two couples not look old at all to be married 9 or 10 years!?)

I could be getting WAY ahead of myself with a September 2012 wedding and I feel like I have the invitations 99% done. I love tweaking stuff so this gives me plenty of time to change my mind or update things - that can be a good or bad thing!

I love wax seals and my favorite part of the invitation suite is the seal. Are you using one in your invitation or doing something completely different? Would love to hear other ideas!

We're still waiting on a custom return address stamp from that will incorporate the leaf on the invitation. I'm pretty excited to see how it turns out! Especially how it will look against the dark blue RSVP envelope in white, silver or gold ink. Let's hope the post office loves it too!

Would love any input on other ideas. Our colors are dark purple (plum), dark green (fern), and peacock. So the blue and gold seemed to be the most fitting on the invitation. Any ideas on how to incorporate other colors or leave it as is?

Save the Dates... (And "Oh the Horror")

Save the Dates are ordered and I couldn't be more excited! Fingers crossed nothing is double booked and the date stands. :) I've heard horror stories from friends and fellow bloggers about churches, reception halls, etc. being double booked. My cousin's reception hall had double booked her wedding and since the other wedding was larger they kicked her to the smaller room, another friend had hers booked and they told her to come back in January and pay because it was better for their pay calendar. To her surprise when she called in January to pay they said "oh - you hadn't paid and someone else wanted your date." I can't even imagine.

Have you had any horror stories? (Or maybe I don't want to hear them...)

Thanks to and the Bridalhood Blog for allowing me to win a Minted Giveaway and get these cute save the dates. I love the timeline!

So I have to admit I had never heard of before getting engaged. It wasn't until I saw some of the giveaways from fellow blogging brides that I explored the site and fell in LOVE! It's almost like the Etsy version of invitations - lots of designers all being credited with their work.

In the past for my holiday cards I used sites like Shutterfly. Now don't get me wrong that's still a great site to work with, but the designs on Minted blew me away. And thanks to a giveaway I had won from Bridalhood  I decided to use the giveaway on Save the Dates. My favorite design: float + celebrate where it opens up to reveal a timeline. How cute!

On a side note I discovered the Design Challenges and not being a trained graphic designer by any means I thought I'd give it a try. In my job I had to teach myself Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. for marketing materials and now I really want to go back to school and get a degree in Graphic Design. It's something I really enjoy doing and think I would even more so if I got some more training. So take a look at the site and please like my designs (hopefully you do!) and when they are up for voting (I'll keep you posted) please vote for me!

Here's a few of my designs for the current "Head Over Heels" challenge.
