Open in 20 Years...

I love the idea of having some component of your wedding that is saved for 10, 15, 20 years down the road to open again. Especially in these days whenever over 50% of marriages end in divorce. I can almost see this as being something you can look at ten years after your marriage to help strengthen it and remember why you married your husband or wife in the first place, what made you fall in love with them and have to grow and strengthen your marriage for another ten years.

Here are a few of my favorites- anyone do something like this for their wedding?

Write love letters to each other, add a bottle of wine,
nail it at the wedding and open in 25 years!

12th Anniversary
Have your guests leave a message or ask a different question at each table.
Ideas for date night, what makes a marriage last, etc.

Use your guest book as a time capsule and don't read or open
a set date.

Have your guests predict your future in your guestbooks and see what comes true - here are some questions to ask:

  • Which one of our brothers or sisters will be next to get married?
  • How many kids will we have ?
  • Where will be living?
  • Who will our kids look like?
  • What will we name our kids?
  • How will we spend our first anniversary?
  • And you can tailor it to be more personal: how many marathons will we run? how many bottles of red wine will we have in twenty years? where did we go on our next vacation?

  1. We are doing love letters, but opening them on our first year and then writing another letter to open in 5 years.
