Time is of the essence...

Seems like everyone I know who has gotten engaged finds themselves in tears and utterly stressed out at least a couple of times throughout the engagement process. Aside from a brief panic attack when the priest pretty much told us he wouldn't let us have a traditional ceremony because we lived together this whole wedding planning process has been pretty calm and smooth. (Side note...after talking to the priest he seemed okay with everything - we meet with him next week so fingers crossed everything is still ok).

I have to say the average 14-month engagement, which we just so happen to have is PERFECT! If you have a date in mind tell your boyfriends to count 14-months back from that and that's when they should propose. I know 3 people - 2 of whom are close friends who had gotten engaged in January/February and are now trying to plan a September/October wedding. It can be done and I'm not one for super long engagements, but in the past few months I've learned time is of the essence and I'd rather have more of it on my side then less of it.

Part of that comes right down to the money. It's so much easier to put some dollars towards wedding items here and there then having to come up with all of it in just a few months. Especially if you and your groom are paying for a lot of the wedding yourselves. Half my dress is already paid for, half of my fiance's wedding ring done, half the venue done, save the dates are done/sent, Christmas decorations that can be used for weddings were bought for dirt cheap, and a whole lot more tucked away. Even my invitations and wedding programs (thank you Minted and WeddingNouveau.com) are already done and I'm just waiting on having those printed until we talk to the priest and finalize times.

I just feel incredibly lucky right now to be sitting here practically twirling my thumbs as I try to think of wedding things I need to check off my list...right now it's pretty empty. Whew....

PS - we took our engagement photos last Saturday and I haven't seen one yet...I can hardly wait...

Wedding Programs...Need Your Help

Lucky me I won a $100 Minted giveaway from Wedding Nouveau and I'm planning on doing my own invitations and save the dates are already out so I looked on Minted and fell in love with their wedding programs. And even better is they have DIY invitations where they provide the cover and you just print your pages on your home computer for the inside. This was just perfect for me because I already had the program done - just couldn't decide what to do about the cover.

Now I can't decide which cover I like the best. We are having a fall, mountain wedding and while the ceremony is in a church the reception is in a rustic looking lodge. So I'm torn between doing something classic and elegant or something a little more fun and unique.

What do you think?

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day! I'm just in LOVE with this card because I think it's absolutely perfect to give to my Valentine on a snowy day in the mountains.

Happy Valentine's Day!

My plans this weekend: 1) Engagement Photos (Yeah!!) 2) Hitting the stores for all the V-day sales (who knows what kind of stuff I can find for cheap to use in the wedding)

Engagement Photos

Our engagement photos are happening next weekend. Our fall photos for the Save the Dates were done by my fiance's friends and we debated over having these done in addition to the other ones. They were "included" in our photography package and I've decided with a fall wedding I'd love to have some great winter shots.

So here are a few of my favorites found over the "blogisphere":

Wood Burning...

Strolling through aisle after aisle in Hobby Lobby I couldn't remember what I came for so the next best thing was to walk up and down until I remembered. That's always good and bad - walk out with more than you need, but find some really great stuff in the process.

I wanted centerpieces that we could make ahead of time...used minimal flowers (if any at all) and were cheap. My favorite idea I've seen so far is using old fallen trees to use as a cake stand, use as vases, and even a unity candle holder. Which is why I'm so excited about our latest find at Hobby Lobby - a wood burning tool. I can't wait to get my hands on some wood and start practicing. It'll be so much cheaper (but not easier) than ordering the same thing online.

Here are a few of my favorites that I hope to recreate!!

Bridesmaid Dresses

Finally decided on Allure 1221 for my bridesmaids dresses. I had pinned them on Pinterest or my sister had found them and I've been going back and forth between those and something simple from David's Bridal.

It's a fall mountain wedding so I thought long dresses would be much better than short dresses. I love the look of short dresses and even more that you don't have to worry about getting them hemmed, but it's hard to not love these!

I'm planning on getting these in the eggplant (shown on the right). I really wanted to see these on people and the blog : http://www.thelongerthewaiting.blogspot.com had them listed and they are gorgeous. Very flattering for all my lovely ladies!
